Dr. Winston details recommended and contraindicated immunizations for HIV-infected adults and adolescents. Her presentation begins by explaining broad issues related to vaccination of HIV-infected individuals, such as the robustness of immune response, the appropriate CD4 cell count, and interactions with other therapies. She goes on to describe, one-by-one, vaccine-specific recommendations for HIV-infected patients.

We request that all users complete the brief posttest and evaluation to provide feedback to course planners and presenters. Those requesting CME credit are required to complete all components to receive credit.

CME Accreditation

The HIV InSite Group offers this activity in conjunction with The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Office of Continuing Medical Education. The UCSF Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The UCSF Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This CME activity is offered from February 1, 2010, to February 1, 2011. Participants who successfully complete the activity posttest and submit the evaluation and registration forms are eligible to receive CME credit. Physician (MDs, DOs, and international equivalents) may receive CME credit for completing this activity.

Grant Support and Cost

This Grand Rounds / CME activity was made possible through an educational grant from the NIAID-funded UCSF-GIVI Center for AIDS Research. There is a $25 processing fee, which goes to the UCSF Office of Continuing Medical Education.

Lisa Winston, MD

Dr. Winston is an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF. She is Vice-Chief of the Inpatient Medical Services and Hospital Epidemiologist at San Francisco General Hospital. Her research interests are infection control and antimicrobial resistant bacterial pathogens.

Susa Coffey, MD

Dr. Coffey is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF, and is an attending physician in the Positive Health Program at San Francisco General Hospital, San Francisco's largest Ryan White Care Act-funded HIV specialty clinic. Dr. Coffey is Principal Investigator and Editor in Chief at HIV InSite and the AIDS Education and Training Centers National Resource Center.
